The Club is delighted to announce that the 2013 Centenary Alpine Trial has won ‘Best Rally or Tour of the Year’ at the prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards in London.
The International Historic Motoring Awards are the most coveted of awards in the classic car industry, showcasing excellence, rewarding innovation and providing a benchmark by which the world of historic cars judges itself.
On 14 June 2013, 47 Vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts departed from Vienna travelling 1,800 miles over some of the world’s most spectacular and challenging mountain passes.
Just like the original trial 100 years earlier, the 2013 Centenary Alpine Trial was distinguished by a very interesting set of participants, some extremely challenging driving, wonderful scenery, glorious weather and a sense of tremendous achievement by both the participants and their cars. In addition, we had attention of three British Ambassadors, the Duke, a Prince and Countess from Great Britain and finally an Austrian Counbt and Countess to round things off.
Speaking at the Gala dinner in London on Thursday 14 November 2013, at the magnificent Renaissance St Pancras Hotel, Nick Naismith said “It was fantastic to recreate something that Rolls-Royce did 100 years ago. Rolls-Royce took six days to do it; we did it in 16 days and we were completely exhausted by the end of it. It really brought to home just how demanding the original 1913 Alpenfahrt was and the importance to Rolls-Royce in order to establish its reputation for faultless reliability in Europe.”
The category 'Best Rally or Tour of the Year' is a new one for this year and the competition was very strong which included the 33-day adventure of the Peking Paris Rally, London to Lisbon and Pirelli Classic Marathon. The judging panel included Derek Bell and Jochen Mass.
